Working boat.

A Norwegian Hardanger Jakt. All Norwegian jakts were called this, whether made in Hardanger or not. It seems the jakts made in Hardanger originally had a better renown. Danish jakts had a round stem, Swedish ones a two piece mast. They were of an antique design even in their own time. It is supposed the name is from Dutch Yacht. If turned into ketches (The sail plan was big for a one poster), they received the name Jaktegaleas. Equally quaint. Stein.

I enjoy your work very much, particularly the way you are able to capture different climatic conditions. Under 'Photo Details' would it be possible for you to indicate the medium you use? I'm guessing acrylic, but for a struggling amateur like myself the information would be useful. Thanks for posting your paintings.

Kind regards

It's acrylic. I like the acrylic to act much like gouache, so I buy Lascaux Studio colours, which has great opacity, and gesso from the same firm, which has a lot of chalk in it. Since acrylic is a medium that does not mix very well, I use bristle brushes for initial large modulations, and fine synthetic round brushes later. Having the initial drawing on tracing paper lets me continually retrace guiding lines. I thank you for the kind words, anything else just ask. Stein.
