Dear All,

I renctly acquired this die-cast waterline model. My first thought was that it was a motor ferry belonging to British Railways, dating from the late 1940s, but on closer inspection, it doesn't match any such vessel that I can find. No BR ferry of the period was of such narrow beam, had such a short funnel, or carried so many lifeboats. I suspect, therefore, that it is actually intended to represent one of the smaller ocean liners of the time. There are no maker's marks or other clues on the underside of the model. Does anyone recognise it? Who made it? And what ship (if any) is it supposed to be?

One of the Belgian cross channel passenger steamers. I can't recall the name but it will come back 100% at some point, I have a feeling it was Prince Baudouin? Certainly matches photos of her, but she did have a couple of sister ships.

Mine was much played with. Those masts were downright dangerous and frequently bent and straightened. I guess it was meant to be more of a display item!

That's her (or one of her sisters): it has to be! Many thanks. The model could conceivably be pre-war, then, I suppose. I have not been able to find any information about it on-line, even now I know the name of the ship. Odd.

As for those lethally sharp and stiff masts, I don't think the concept of protecting children from dangerous toys had yet been invented! :ROFLMAO:
