Great action shot. Alongside is Red Funnel's "Gatcombe" (1960, 513grt) which could carry up to 400pass. Looks like Gatcombe is manoeuvring into position with line aboard Flandre. Latter has a shell door open perhaps for passenger transfer by gangway to Gatcombe's bridge deck.
Yes, great shot! They are lying bow to stern for baggage or auto transfer.... not FRANDRE's crane is topped... straight down onto GATCOMBE's afterdeck.... she could carry up to eight cars in addition to the 400 pax.
I sailed in GATCOME as Deck Boy in 1969 Southampton to Bermuda then was delivery master on her in '82, '87 and '88.... the last run being her final deep sea voyage... Dartmouth to Piraeus.
Period must be 1963-1968 (Flandre with white hull). Scheduled route was: Le Havre, Southampton, Vigo, San Juan, Santo Domingo, Pointe-a-Pitre, Le Roseau, Fort-de-France, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad.
Crossing the Atlantic in the Gatcombe must have been quite an experience, Stephen. How did she cope with the open ocean?
