Sozidanie at Las Palmas

13/10/2004, on the repair lanes at AstiCan ship repair yard, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain - awaiting an Insurers decision on her fate after suffering a devastating fire at sea.

Built in 1992 built by Naval Gijón SA, Gijón, Spain (500).
7,805 g.t. & 5,460 dwt., as:
'Sozidanie' until caught fire in the Atlantic when some 28Km's South of the Gran Canarian coast on 23/05/2004.

She was abandoned by her crew of 83 & subsequently taken into tow , berthing at Las Palmas on 28/05/2004 with severe structural damage.

The fire was alleged to have started by new fluoroscent tubes which ignited a stack of cardboard fish boxes.
(These boxes are often bulk loaded at Las Palmas port and come flat packed)

The damage was found to be beyond economical repair and she was sold to Sok Ltd., Turkey for demoilition and arrived at Aliaga in tow from Las Palmas on 11/01/2005.
