Interesting photo of the old bucket dredger, with her builders being at the time almost the main dredger builders for the world, with many orders world-wide. In practice, the bucket dredger design eventually became slightly inefficient especially for narrow channels/harbours, mainly due to the need for extensive wide-ranging moorings from bow and stern, which allowed them to manoeuvre in a semi-circular motion but restricted passing vessels. This one was finally replaced by the more familiar self-propelled grab dredger of the same name i.e. 'Esk" which was built in 1936 and which was much more flexible when working.
