The remains of the Normandie are seen heading down the Hudson after being refloated in November, 1943. The caption from this picture optimistically says she's heading to a shipyard for restoration and a return to service.

This is actually not a photo of the TS/E NORMANDIE - it is the burnt out hulk of the U.S.S. LAFAYETTE ! She was renamed -as I recall it- already in the beginning of the war in 1939-1940 when laid up in New York.

Great posting .... we dont usually see a close up of the stern showing detail such as this ..... very interesting design, quite different from the other vessels of the day.
